The first 90 days
- Week 1
Deschool. No formal academics. Conversations about what the child wants to learn, what was hard at the old school, what subjects feel exciting now.
- Weeks 2 to 4
Add one subject per week. Math first (placement test from Saxon or Singapore tells you the right grade level, regardless of what the transcript says). Then writing. Then Latin or another foreign language. Then a science spine.
- Weeks 5 to 8
Settle into a five-subject morning. In our assessment, the Latin starter takes the longest to acclimate. Expect the first six weeks of Latin to feel slow; the conjugations and declensions need repetition. The math program should produce visible progress within three weeks; if it does not, switch.
- Weeks 9 to 13
First portfolio entries. Standardized test prep, if the state requires it (NC, PA, FL all do). One museum or historical-site visit per month. Reading log running. Review every subject at week 13: keep what is working, switch what is not, do not chase the latest publisher recommendation without honest evidence.
