How to Start Homeschooling in Arkansas (2026)

Arkansas requires a written notice of intent to the superintendent of the local school district at the beginning of each school year, no later than August 15.

Legal framework

Arkansas Code section 6-15-503 requires parents or legal guardians desiring to provide a home school to give written notice of their intent to the superintendent of their local school district, either at the beginning of each school year but no later than August 15, or five school days before withdrawing the student from the local school district and at the beginning of each school year thereafter. Parents who move into the school district during the school year give the notice within thirty calendar days of establishing residency. The notice includes the name, sex, date of birth, grade level, and name and address of the school last attended, if any, of each student, and the mailing address and telephone number of the home school.
