How to Start Homeschooling in Missouri (2026)
Missouri law makes a parent, guardian, or other person with custody of a child responsible for enrolling the child in a program of academic instruction in a public, private, parochial, parish, home, or FPE school (Section 167.031, RSMo).
Legal framework
Under RSMo 167.031, a parent, guardian or other person having charge of a child must enroll the child, between the ages of seven and the compulsory attendance age for the district, in a program of academic instruction in a public, private, parochial or parish school, a home school, an FPE school, or a combination of such schools. State departments and agencies are prohibited from dictating a statewide curriculum for private, parochial, parish, home or FPE schools.
