How to Start Homeschooling in Kansas (2026)
Kansas treats a home program that satisfies the compulsory attendance law as a private, nonaccredited school under K.S.A. 72-3120 and 72-4345.
Legal framework
Kansas law (K.S.A. 72-3120) requires a parent of a child who has reached age seven and is under 18 to require the child to be regularly enrolled in and attend continuously each school year a public school, a private, denominational, or parochial school taught by a competent instructor for a period substantially equivalent to the period the public school is maintained in the district where the private school is located, or a combination of the two.
