How to Start Homeschooling in Wyoming (2026)

Wyoming law requires a home-based educational program to meet the requirements of a basic academic educational program, a sequentially progressive curriculum of fundamental instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, civics, history, literature and science (W.S. 21-4-102(b), 21-4-101(a)(vi)). The Steamboat Legacy Scholarship Act, W.S. 21-2-901 and following, creates education savings accounts subject to legislative funding.

Legal framework

Under W.S. 21-4-102(b), a home-based educational program must meet the requirements of a basic academic educational program, defined in W.S. 21-4-101(a)(vi) as a sequentially progressive curriculum of fundamental instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, civics, history, literature and science. The person administering the program is responsible for ensuring that the curriculum is administered. A home-based educational program is a program of educational instruction provided to a child by the child's parent or legal guardian or by a person the parent or legal guardian designates.
