New Mexico requires a home school registration with the Public Education Department within thirty days of establishing the home school and by August 1 each year, and instruction by a person with at least a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Legal framework

Under Section 22-1-2.1 NMSA 1978, a person operating or intending to operate a home school must submit a home school registration form to the Public Education Department within thirty days of establishing the home school and on or before August 1 of each subsequent year, maintain records of student disease immunization or a waiver of that requirement, and provide instruction by a person possessing at least a high school diploma or its equivalent.
